About Burhill Group Limited

Privately owned by members of the Guinness family, Burhill Group Limited (then Burhill Estates Limited), was founded in 1926 to manage the estates of the then Lord Iveagh. One of these estates was Burhill Park, Walton on Thames – home to the prestigious Burhill Golf Club.

Over the years the Company diversified and now has three divisions.

BGL Golf

The first of the BGL Golf properties was Burhill Golf Club, Walton on Thames which was opened on Burhill Park in 1907 using the Georgian Mansion as a Clubhouse.  BGL launched into Pay & Play Golf in 1982 with the building of Hoebridge Golf Centre on an estate near Woking. The high demand for affordable and ‘no commitment golf’ led to huge success at Hoebridge and the decision to develop further into the Pay & Play market.

Since 1992 Burhill Group Limited has acquired six further golf centres and more recently purchased two Hertfordshire Golf Clubs in 2006.

BGL Leisure

The smallest division of BGL Group, but one with great potential to develop is BGL Leisure.  Currently within the portfolio are two health and fitness clubs, Horizones Woking and Horizones Dartford, both of which are located within existing golf properties.

Accommodation is another part of BGL Leisure – Thornbury Lodge is an 11 bedroom farmhouse style lodge, attached to Thornbury Golf Centre in Bristol.

The latest and most exciting addition to BGL Leisure is Mr Mulligan's Adventure Golf.  Adventure Golf is an emerging arm of sport in the UK base on a fresh and exciting format.  It is accessible to all and has universal appeal.  Mr Mulligan Adventure Golf was opened in Milton Keynes in October 2011 and has been incredibly successful.  BGL Leisure is actively seeking well-located sites, primarily close to town centres to develop further adventure golf sites.
